Inspired by their upcoming production of The Lehman Trilogy, GableStage welcomes Dr. Josh Parshall of the Goldring/ Woldenberg Institute for Southern Jewish Life to share insights combining the history of cotton production in the US South with southern Jewish histories. Learn how Jewish migrants found their way to emerging market hubs, and in many cases, came to occupy prominent positions in social and civic life. And explore how this history illuminates Jewish relationships to race and racism in the United States and observe how changes in cotton production have shaped and reshaped Jewish communities in much of the rural South.

Organized by the Greater Miami Jewish Federation’s Synagogue Relations Committee, synagogues throughout Miami-Dade County will host Shabbat dinners as a testament to Jewish strength and perseverance as we pray for the safety and well-being of Klal Yisrael (all of Israel), give thanks and celebrate the blessings of Shabbat. Individuals are also welcome to join or host private Shabbat dinners through Federation partner OneTable.

For those in need of healing or inspiration, the Sabbath of Wholeness, a pastoral care experience presented by Federation’s Mishkan Miami in partnership with Baptist Hospital is offered twice monthly on Zoom.

The pre-Sabbath program includes candle lighting and other Sabbath rituals, as well as songs, prayer and reflection. “We are all in need of wholeness at different times in our lives,” said Director of Mishkan Miami Rabbi Frederick L. Klein, who leads the first session of every month along with guest musicians and cantors. “We pray for those in need of healing, remember our brethren in Israel and receive messages of inspiration to give us strength and resilience.” The Sabbath of Wholeness is open to people of all faith backgrounds.
