A Benefit for the Holocaust Teacher Institute at the University of Miami
An evening of memory and music with proceeds benefiting the University of Miami School of Education and Human Development Holocaust Teacher Institute.
World-renowned scholar Dr. Michael Berenbaum will speak about the Holocaust, followed by a short program by New World Symphony Piano Fellow Noah Sonderling playing music of composers who did not survive the Holocaust.
Founding Director Dr. Miriam Klein Kassenoff has led the Institute for the past 22 years, building a system that gives public school teachers the necessary facts and presentational skills to handle this sensitive topic. Dr. Kassenoff is a Child Survivor who was trained at Yad Vashem and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum as well as by the leaders of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.

Federation President & CEO to Retire After More Than Four Decades
Jacob Solomon, who joined the Greater Miami Jewish Federation in 1981, has announced his plans to retire, effective June 30, 2024. He has served as President & CEO since 1992, guiding the raising and distribution of hundreds of millions of dollars to support humanitarian services and Jewish educational programs in Miami, in Israel and in more than 70 other countries worldwide. “This is a poignant moment for our Jewish community,” said Federation Board Chair Ariel Bentata. “Throughout his tenure, Jacob has helped shape Miami’s remarkable Jewish landscape." Richard D. Fain, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Royal Caribbean Group, has been appointed to lead the search for Solomon’s successor.

PJ Library needs volunteer readers at Chanukah
PJ Library Story Squad is seeking volunteer readers to help bring Chanukah to Miami-Dade elementary school students. Share the joy of the Festival of Lights with children in their classrooms through story time and Chanukah traditions such as lighting the menorah, playing dreidel with Chanukah gelt (chocolate “money”) and eating sufganiyot (jelly donuts). The Miami chapter of PJ Library, a Federation program funded by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation and the Blank Family Foundation, provides free Jewish books to thousands of children throughout Miami-Dade County to promote a love of reading while exploring Jewish values and traditions.
PJ Library Story Squad participants will be provided with all necessary materials as well as virtual training on Wednesday, November 15 and Thursday, November 16. Registration deadline is Monday, November 13.
