Become a Refuat Ha-Nefesh Volunteer

Learn the Art of Jewish Spiritual Care

Photo: Volunteer with Senior

Applications are being accepted for Mishkan Miami’s Refuat Ha-Nefesh, a unique volunteer experience providing training for Jews, ages 21 and older, in the art of Jewish spiritual care.

Participants in the course, which will be taught largely online, will receive instruction by rabbis and chaplains as well as doctors, bereavement specialists and social workers. Students will also complete a volunteer mitzvah (good deed) project geared toward helping older adults and others who are lonely, ill or require help or companionship. In addition to studying spiritual care texts, volunteers will learn to develop legacy, art, music and creative ritual projects and receive assistance in developing and maintaining congregational caring communities.

A program of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, Mishkan Miami offers spiritual support throughout the Jewish community, providing consolation and guidance to those in need.

Refuat Ha-Nefesh training will take place December 17, 2023 -April 9, 2024. The course will be a combination of virtual Tuesday evening sessions and three in-person Sunday morning sessions.

The application deadline is November 17. Following your application, Mishkan Miami chaplains will schedule an informational interview, which precedes registration. For further information, contact Nicole Alonso at [email protected] or 786.866.8655.
