Bet Shira Congregation, South Dade’s only Conservative Jewish synagogue, will celebrate the installation of its spiritual leader, Rabbi Jesse Charyn, with a ceremony, cocktail reception and dinner on Saturday evening, January 28, beginning at 6:45 p.m. The synagogue is located at 7500 Southwest 120th Street.
The Installation Ceremony will feature the participation of clergy from neighboring synagogues and churches, elected officials, Jewish community leaders and others.
The Installation Ceremony will be followed by cocktails, an Israeli-themed kosher dinner and entertainment. Cocktail attire is suggested. Tickets for the event are $118.00 per person. Click here to RSVP.
Rabbi Charyn became spiritual leader at Bet Shira in July 2022. The Installation Ceremony marks the congregation’s reaffirmation of the Rabbi’s religious authority, and their shared commitment to pursue the values of Conservative Judaism and the ideal of Tikkun Olam (making the world a better place). Rabbi Charyn is a speaker, teacher, chaplain, outdoor enthusiast and dedicated Jewish leader with diverse religious experience. Born and raised in Chattanooga, Tenn., he attended Young Judea’s Year Course in Israel before making aliyah (immigration) to Israel and serving in the Israel Defense Force’s Golani Special Forces from 2003-2006. His strong relationship with Israel also included staffing several Birthright Israel trips and serving as a Birthright Fellow.
A graduate of Arizona State University, Rabbi Charyn pursued post-graduate studies at the Ziegler School for Rabbinic Studies, the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College, the Conservative Yeshiva and Arizona State University. Before leading Bet Shira, he served as Rabbi/Director of Spiritual Care at Miami Jewish Health Systems.
Rabbi Charyn views his family as his greatest achievement, sharing his life with his wife Shira and three daughters, Rayna, Navah and Zivah.
Bet Shira, House of Song, is an inclusive, egalitarian Conservative synagogue embracing tradition and change. For more information, visit www.betshira.org or call 305-238-2601.

The Last Chance Testimony Initiative
Posted by Noa Waks Rudman on 01/12/2023 @ 12:58 PM
Testimony of Holocaust survivors is expanding and accelerating .The Last Chance Testimony Initiative, the race-against-time effort is to collect testimonies from the last living survivors and witnesses to the Holocaust.
The Last Chance Testimony Initiative was launched to enable Holocaust survivors——to give testimony while time and memory permit. The WPEC CBS 12 station in West Palm Beach, Florida will provide production space, equipment and staff to assist in recording new testimonies from those who we have not yet interviewed (as opposed to a second testimony from someone already in the Archive.) There are an estimated 50,000 remaining Holocaust survivors living in the United States. If a survivor would like to give their testimony, the Holocaust Memorial Miami Beach can assist with this important project, conducted by the Shoah Foundation who will be in West Palm Beach for this project.
For more information, please call the Holocaust Memorial at 305 538-1663.
